Townsville Eye – My Weekend: Jana Keane / Refine Your Style

Sustainable Fashion Stylist specialising in Colour Analysis

Tell Us About Yourself

I discovered my passion for styling around 6 years ago when I studied image consulting and colour analysis. Once I saw the incredible transformation you can create putting someone in the right colours, fabrics and styles I knew I wanted to build a business of my own, sourcing incredible sustainable garments and dressing women in a way that helped them rediscover their confidence.

Fast forward to today, and I manage my business, Refine Your Style, offering local and virtual styling, shopping and colour matching services for all my corporate and executive clients, whilst juggling 3 children under 10 and building our dream home with my husband.

I am passionate about sustainable products; and have recently partnered with Byron Bay natural makeup brand Eye-of-Horus; which will enable me to create personalised make-up kits made with natural ingredients perfectly suited to your skin tone and eye colour.

I, like so many other small businesses, had to adapt fast when Covid-19 hit; taking my in-person services and products on-line, working with women across Australia to plan their outfits and update their wardrobe from my home in Townsville. Isolation also taught me the importance of having like-minded women around you, who you can connect with, and talk to about family and business.

I have curated a dream team of sustainability-conscious experts in the fields of hairstyling, beauty, makeup artistry, professional bra fitting and sustainable fashion design which means I am now able to offer a holistic styling experience that connects your outfits, makeup, hairstyle and silhouette creating a refined and polished image.

I am continually inspired by my clients: women who are entrepreneurs and CEOs who have worked so hard to get to where they are. Before working with me, they would find themselves trying on a third outfit (in frustration) just before a board meeting or press conference thinking “it shouldn’t feel like this”. I find taking away this pain and frustration extremely rewarding.

 A typical weekend involves ….

Generally some sort of house project, like painting, wallpapering, gardening or restoring some vintage piece of furniture I have convinced my husband we needed, followed by a bbq with friends. We have a large yard so the kids can run wild and noisy while the adults get to catch up.

A dream long weekend would include …

A girls trip to Melbourne (kid-free) to scour my favourite shopping spots in Hawthorn, Elwood and the CBD, dinner at Transformer in Fitzroy and a hot rock massage down in the Penisula Hot Springs.

Saturday nights in my family mean …..

Masala Indian Butter Chicken, a glass of Organic Geisen Sauvignon Blanc and a “pay-for-movie” as the kids like to call them.

My Sunday night involves …

Catching up on creating “Client shoppable mood boards”, which means I get to window shop online for my clients, create purchasing recommendations for them based on their personality, colours and lifestyle and package it up into fabulous magazine-style looks for them to choose from.

I make sure I always ….

Read the label – whether it is food, clothing or personal care products. You should always know what you are putting in and on your body.
